How To Manage Your Website

Imagine you walked into a store and it looked exactly like it did when it first opened in the 1950s. Imagine noticing dusts on the shelves and on the floor and products. Imagine you go to pay for your purchase with a credit card but you can’t because they don’t have a credit card machine. Imagine what you would be thinking, feeling and if you would ever go back.

Having an outdated web presence is exactly like never renovating or cleaning your store since the first day it opened. The difference is that it would take years and decades for a brick and mortar store to really appear outdated and it might only take a few months for a web presence to appear outdated.

It does not take long for a website visitor to notice when web pages are out of date, specifically when it comes to their design, plugins that don’t work or social media accounts that haven’t been updated. There’s also a possibility visitors might not even find your site since if you aren’t updating it, it won’t continue to rank in search engines. Having an outdated web presence is a surefire way to turn off visitors and send them to your competitors

If you have not touched your website since it was first created or written on your social media page in months, then it might be time to look at making some updates.

Here are some important things to make sure are up to date on your website:

  • Your address, phone number and hours of operation.
  • Your products or services and/or prices. If a customer calls or emails to inquire about a specific product and find it’s no longer offered or the price is completely different, you’ve already lost their trust
  • Your design scheme. Think of it as renovating your brick and mortar stores. An updated design could be like a fresh coat of paint or better lighting, it can make a big difference.
  • Your social media sites. If you want to have social media sites, then you’ll want to keep them updated. It looks worse to have social media that hasn’t been updated than to not have it updated at all.
  • Mobile responsiveness. It’s the age of mobile and many people will be looking at your site on their mobile devices
  • Images. Your images should show off your current location, products and team members.

You do not need to be change your website every week, but by making sure these big factors are up to date, you’ll be saving yourself lots of time and energy down the road from having to manage a huge website overhaul.
